The Stranglers

The Stranglers
Cambridge Corn Exchange, The
With 32 top 40 hits spanning over 4 decades and numerous gold and platinum albums, The Stranglers remain true to form. First gigging in 1975, the band's straight talking approach was sometimes interpreted as aggressive and confrontational but, if truth be known, they were more musically gifted than many of their peers. Nevertheless, their notoriety was embraced by the punk movement of 1977, breaking the debut single Grip, taken from their legendary first album Rattus Norvegicus, and launching the band into public consciousness from thereon in. They have now embarked upon a new Greatest Hits Tour.

With a collection of powerful, intriguing and strikingly honest songs, she blends elements of rock, folk, country and chanson singing to great effect.

Elbow

Elbow
Cambridge Corn Exchange, The
Following their phenomenal return to the UK music scene with the critically adulated fourth studio album, The Seldom Seen Kid, Elbow will embark on their second UK tour this year in October. With their latest release Elbow have firmly cemented their position as one of the UK's most valued bands, with the album securing their fourth consecutive 9/10 review in the NME (a unique feat not achieved by any other band in the history of the magazine), scores of glowing reviews and a declaration from The Times that The Seldom Seen Kid is ‘surely one of the year's best records'.

Longview

Longview
Junction 1, The
Longview have long been noted for their refusal to conform to a scene, preferring to value their integrity above the fool’s gold rewards of selling out. In this consumerist society, the sell-out has never been so easy; slip the marketing machine into overdrive, shelve your morals and learn to acquiesce, and it’s all too possible to trade your soul for fifteen minutes of fame.

But Longview are no band-wagon buccaneers. Rather, they are songsmiths of the traditional kind, motivated not by commercial gain and notoriety but by the deep-seated need to connect with people. Having earned a reputation for the kind of soaring, stirring music that puts light in your soul and hope in your heart, they have spent the past few years assessing the landscape and defining their aspirations, since the release of critically acclaimed debut album Mercury.
