The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain

The Ukulele Orchestra Of Great Britain
Cambridge Arts Theatre
Giving you one plucking thing after another since 1985!

‘Worth travelling a thousand miles to hear' Independent

The cult orchestra of all-singing, all-strumming ukulele players returns to Cambridge with their own unique brand of live entertainment!

A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is guaranteed to be a funny, virtuosic, twanging, awesome, foot-stomping obituary of rock ‘n' roll and melodious light entertainment, featuring only ukuleles - little ones, big ones, high ones, low ones, with not a twang incongruous - alongside a menagerie of voices in a collision of post-punk performance and toe-tapping oldies. No guitars, no drums, no pianos, no backing tracks. And certainly no banjos.

No style is sacred, no genre untouchable - from Tchaikovsky to Nirvana via Otis Reading, the Orchestra take you on a world tour with only hand luggage.

You may never think about music in the same way once you've been exposed to the Ukes' depraved musicology!

‘The best musical entertainment in the country' Independent

WARNING: May contain seriously good music!

The Pure Floyd Show

The Pure Floyd Show
The Arkenstall Centre

Pure Floyd are gaining stature with every gig. The band has grown to a massive 8 piece line up to enable the accurate reproduction of Pink Floyd's extensive repertoire.

The band has performed twice for Cambridge Rock Festival productions this year, including on the festival mainstage on Thursday night - the crowd were very appreciative of the accuracy of the rendering of a long list of Floyd classics. The band are playing a full double set and so we will get even more than they squeezed into the festival slot this year - one not to be missed.

Ticket price includes Curry Supper (Veggie option available).

Ring 01353 749749 for tickets.

Organised by Cambridge Rock Festival - money raised goes towards  staging the next festival.

Hot Leg (featuring Justin Hawkins - The Darkness)

Hot Leg (featuring Justin Hawkins - The Darkness)
Soul Tree
Hot Leg is a brand new musical group featuring Justin 'Dave' Hawkins, former lead singer/lead guitarist/lead songwriter of The Darkness. Hot Leg are an entirely hairier beast, and they make really really brilliant rock music.

Hawkins' patented 'Truth Larynx' is the perfect foil to the 6-stringed rapier of Pete 'Liquid Guitar Hands' Rinaldi, the Axemeister General. Meanwhile Samuel SJ Stokes and Darby Todd have emulsified into one muscular unit now known only as 'The PowerZone'.

Four men with at least one machine apiece operating in pitch-perfect harmony. Who could ask for more?

The Displacements

The Displacements
Soul Tree
'pThe love-battered romance of a mid-teen Morrissey, the flat-capped indie twinkle of The Housemartins' says the NME, who also said - "The Displacements, who resembles the Buzzcocks with an even softer heart, yet who rock like their lives might cease the moment they discover the fourth chord. Really, that's all we ask."

The Displacements, made up of school friends and brothers, Andy Stone, Nick Eversfield, Joe Wilson and James Stone are taking the music scene by storm.

After two sold out limited singles on legendary record label Stiff Records, tours with The Enemy, Glasvegas, The Courteeners and The Twang, and latest single Down and Out selling over 1500 copies before it was officially released, 2008 and beyond will be theirs.

Rolo Tomassi

Rolo Tomassi
Portland Arms, The
Rolo Tomassi are teenagers from Sheffield. They can't buy booze. They can't vote. They probably can't legally drive, not on public roads. But, Rolo Tomassi are also probably the most exciting grind-cum-Casio-cum-hard-come-whatever core band in Britain as of right this bloody minute. And a minute spent in the company of Rolo Tomassi is a particularly bloody minute.

Six-string instruments are mercilessly slain, their guts and wires and knobs and switches spilling onto the studio floor like the innards of a bit-part character in a slasher b-movie; you know, the sort that's obviously getting bumped off as early as the titles, if not before. Keyboards and drums are similarly abused, creating an impressive Trencher-meets-Blood Brothers noise that's all the more exciting for its makers' youthfulness. Seriously, this is seriously good, and as an introduction to a band that could be a must-see once they're old enough to actually tour properly, it's practically faultless." - Drownedinsound
