Dunton Folk - The Carrivick Sisters In Concert

Dunton Folk - The Carrivick Sisters In Concert
St Mary Magdalene Church

Identical twin sisters Charlotte and Laura Carrivick have grown up playing and writing music together. Their unique style shows their strong bluegrass influences without obscuring their English roots. With tight harmonies that only siblings can achieve, they perform their original songs on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and clawhammer banjo. They have performed both in the UK and internationally.

Both sisters have had varied musical influences. Laura started out with Classical violin at 10 but was soon more interested in folk music, playing along to Chieftains CD’s. Charlotte also started out classically, but in her case with guitar. Charlotte picked up the mandolin a few years later and in 2003 they attended the ‘Sore Fingers’ bluegrass course. This was where Laura first heard the dobro, which she started playing a year later. In recent months Charlotte has taken up the clawhammer banjo, sometimes bringing a more old timey feel to their sound.

Keith Pearson's Coup de Grass is an exciting mix of all that is great in Bluegrass and in Folk. Their music, which ranges from fast, dazzling banjo, guitar and harmonica solos to ballads of exceptional beauty is just a part of what makes them one of the most popular and sought after acts currently playing the clubs and concert stages. Time and time again, at concerts and festivals, people come up to the band after a show and say "I didn't realise how much I liked that kind of music until I heard this band."

Tony Carling is as unique an artist as you could wish for, a warm engaging and totally relaxed performer. His song writing brings to life in sometimes hilarious fashion the observations and characters he has met from growing up around the children's homes in South London and working in the building trade. So come with an open mind and be prepared to leave with a new song in your heart!
