Their unique style shows their strong bluegrass influences without obscuring their English roots. With tight harmonies that only siblings can achieve, they perform their original songs on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, dobro and clawhammer banjo. They have performed both in the UK and internationally.</p> <p>Both sisters have had varied musical influences. Laura started out with Classical violin at 10 but was soon more interested in folk music, playing along to Chieftains CD’s. Charlotte also started out classically, but in her case with guitar. Charlotte picked up the mandolin a few years later and in 2003 they attended the ‘Sore Fingers’ bluegrass course. This was where Laura first heard the dobro, which she started playing a year later. In recent months Charlotte has taken up the clawhammer banjo, sometimes bringing a more old timey feel to their sound. </p> <p><a href="http://www.duntonfolk.co.uk" title="www.duntonfolk.co.uk">www.duntonfolk.co.uk</a></p> acoustic bluegrass folk gigs - acoustic Sun, 09 Mar 2014 08:13:09 +0000 Dunton Folk 5280 at http://movingtone.com Máire Ní Chathasaigh (Harp) & Chris Newman (Guitar) http://movingtone.com/events/m%C3%A1ire-n%C3%AD-chathasaigh-harp-chris-newman-guitar <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-start"><label>Start: </label>1 Oct 2009 - 07:00</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-end"><label>End: </label>1 Oct 2009 - 22:00</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-tz"><label>Timezone: </label>Etc/GMT</div></div> <p>The greatest Celtic harpist of our age"- Live Ireland.<br /> “Virtuosic, fascinating, dramatic, original, inspired, gloriously adventurous, dazzling, brilliant, stunning, impassioned, electrifying, bewitching, moving, achingly beautiful , influential, revered, unique...” The Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Irish Times, The Scotsman, Folk Roots. </p> <p>The brilliant, innovative harping of Máire Ní Chathasaigh, Irish Traditional Musician of the Year 2001, and the astonishing virtuosity and versatility of English guitar wizard Chris Newman, has been heard all over the world: now they come to The Maltings, Ely for the first time with their addictive and stylish cocktail of powerhouse Irish dance-music, gorgeous airs, evocative old songs and striking new compositions - with shots of hot jazz and bluegrass thrown in! </p> <p>Tickets ADeC Box Office, Babylon Gallery, Waterside, Ely. online <a href="http://www.adec.org.uk" title="www.adec.org.uk">www.adec.org.uk</a> also in person Burrows Bookshop &amp; The Maltings.</p> bluegrass folk gigs - acoustic hot jazz irish dance Mon, 07 Sep 2009 15:42:54 +0000 Caroline Cawley 3449 at http://movingtone.com John Wheeler AKA Barley Scotch http://movingtone.com/events/john-wheeler-aka-barley-scotch <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-start"><label>Start: </label>21 Jan 2009 - 20:00</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-end"><label>End: </label>21 Jan 2009 - 23:00</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-tz"><label>Timezone: </label>Etc/GMT</div></div> Spend an evening with <b>Hayseed Dixie frontman,</b> mouthpiece, and populist philosopher <b>John Wheeler</b>, as he pontificates on all things social and political from his utterly individual and generally hilarious perspective, plays assorted songs and conveys the often sordid stories behind them. <p> <b>Booking Info:</b><br /> Book online on The Junction website <a href="http://www.junction.co.uk" title="www.junction.co.uk">www.junction.co.uk</a> or ring 01223 511511 </p> bluegrass gigs - acoustic rock Wed, 26 Nov 2008 21:55:10 +0000 Sandra 2191 at http://movingtone.com Keith Pearson's Coup de Grass http://movingtone.com/events/keith-pearsons-coup-de-grass-0 <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-start"><label>Start: </label>14 Jan 2009 - 20:00</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-end"><label>End: </label>14 Jan 2009 - 23:00</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-tz"><label>Timezone: </label>Etc/GMT</div></div> Cajun night! In 1989, World Harmonica Champion, James Darby, joined the line-up, seeking to form a hotshot Country Band. The resulting mixture of styles gave rise to a new band called The Hitkickers. Over several years this unique band acquired a cult following among the more musically adventurous fans of British Country. Having decided to concentrate on Folk and World Music festivals and concerts, rather than C and W clubs. The band formerly known as The Hitkickers (and occasionally also known as the Bluegrass Gentlemen and the Left Hand Band) is now officially called COUP DE GRASS. </p> <br /> band bluegrass gigs - acoustic Tue, 22 Apr 2008 14:54:47 +0000 Alycia Hayes 146 at http://movingtone.com
