Melvyn Tan joins members of the Doric String Quartet and clarinettist Timothy Orpen in a performance of one of Messiaen's most iconic and well known works, Quartet for the End of Time. Written for clarinet, violin, cello and piano whilst Messiaen was interned in a German prison camp it was performed by and for fellow prisoners in Goerlitz in 1941. The work is partnered by Brahms' Clarinet Quintet - widely regarded as his supreme musical achievement in the field of chamber music and a work which always had the power to touch the hearts and minds of players and audiences alike. A memorable evening.

Johannes Brahms Variations on a Theme by Haydn (St Anthony Chorale) and Ein Deutsches Requiem, Op 45

Brahms's Requiem, his greatest choral work, is deeply personal, moving and expresses great hope, using inspiration from the Lutheran Bible to produce music that sings of human compassion, in German rather than the usual Latin.

‘Glampunkska' is the brainchild of Cambridge musician, Mark Tingey and was born out of his desire to encapsulate the musical essence of the 1970's. Back then it all began with theatrical Glam Rock, followed by the musical revolution of Punk Rock and ending the decade with the sounds of Ska, which was a dominant force both in the charts and on a more underground level. All of these genres not only share one of the most influential and iconic musical decades of all time, but each one represents the dynamic and changing voice of the youth of its day. This ‘voice' may have grown older, the coiffure and spiky hair may be grey or gone altogether, but there is still a huge fan base going strong after 30 plus years and the possibility of its celebration by bringing it all together on one glorious night was too good an opportunity for Mark to miss.

St Pauls Comunity Centre

Cambsdance is a not-for-profit community group that organises mostly 5 Rhythms dance, movement and body awareness events in Cambridge.

Those of us on the organising team want to continue dancing on a weekly basis. The best way to achieve this is to get more people to the sessions, so our invitation to you is to come along, bring your friends and make it happen! We will do everything we can behind the scenes to support this. If any of you want to join us on the organisational side of things, please let us know.
