Written for clarinet, violin, cello and piano whilst Messiaen was interned in a German prison camp it was performed by and for fellow prisoners in Goerlitz in 1941. The work is partnered by Brahms' Clarinet Quintet - widely regarded as his supreme musical achievement in the field of chamber music and a work which always had the power to touch the hearts and minds of players and audiences alike. A memorable evening.
