Secret Discotheque

Secret Discotheque
Soul Tree

This week I suggest a celebration of all that is unfashionable and un-cool! The secret discotheque at The Soul Tree is on hand to provide the perfect venue for a festival of anti-cool! Having said this, we've all the seen the streets littered lately with post-modern 80s chic, so perhaps it is cool? I'll leave you to ponder it; but rest assured, what happens at secret discotheque, stays at secret discotheque, so no-one 'normal' will ever know!

Secret Discotheque is a unique night out where excellent DJs play retro disco, 80's pop, hair metal, tv theme tunes and great songs that are absolutely guaranteed to have you singing along, busting rad moves, gasping in wonder and, at times, cringing at the questionable lyrics and audacious synth work.

It's the only weekly retro party in the city and it's a hit with ladies and gents of all persuasions! If you feel like dressing retro or just mental we say YES!

Get on the bus and get a wristband. That way you get free entry! Available at the Fisher Square Kiosk and other fine establishments.

Victoria and Jacob + The Pixiphones

Victoria and Jacob + The Pixiphones
Bakers Pub

Victoria and Jacob are from Cambridge, UK. They play drum machine, glockenspiel, guitar, synthesiser, melodica, laptop, and various early learning centre noise making devices, and create the most alluring electro-acoustic, indie-pop music. Already in 2008 they have shared the stage with acts such as Mystery Jets, Broadcast 2000, Josh Weller, Real ones and The Train Chronicles.

The Pixiphones are a local collective of musicians. They always vary in terms of lineup, which makes for an interesting spectacle to watch! due to the regular lineup changes, they have various instrumentation and orchestrations, but the music is allways of the highest quality.

ALTO45

Lab-coat wearing lo-fi popsters, supplying small town melancholia, to anyone with five minutes to spare, brought together by a shared love of car boots sales, robots, Daniel Johnston and the mid-range audio frequencies. An eclectic mix of lo-fi pop, downbeat and experimental electronica in the vein of Grandaddy, Leonard Cohen and Add N to (X), if you will. Cosmic, melancholy pop with cheap electronics and civilised guitar. Originally from the countryside, now residing in uptown Norwich, alto45 release records on their own Happy Capitalist Recordings along with other releases on Sickroom GC, Robots and Electronic Brains, NROne, Howlback/Mummy Where's The Milkman and MQ Projects.

TIGER MCS

Fragile, melancholic and yet playful, dreamy lo-fi pop from Norwich, in the vein of M. Ward and The Mountain Goats. Tiger MCs began playing live in 2002 as a side-project and antithesis to noise-drenched, epic mid-fi band Postalowa. Gradually developing a sound typified by concise, energetic guitar playing and rambling half-sentences for lyrics, Tiger MCs released several tracks on Norwich-based label Metal Queen Projects, culminating in the 'Piston-Pawed' EP. Last year saw the release of debut album, 'We Go Out', on Cherryade Records, home to The Bobby McGees, Steveless, etc.

THE PUNCTURE REPAIR KIT

If Gorky's Zygotic Mynci or the Delgados had formed in Cambridge then they might have sounded very much like The PRK - grandiose orchestral pop on a budget.
