Jacqui Dankworth and her Band at Childerley Hall

Jacqui Dankworth and her Band at Childerley Hall
Childerley Hall
It is no surprise that Jacqui Dankworth, the undisputed ‘Princess of Jazz', is known as one of the finest singers of her generation. Daughter of Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth, Jacqui's musical pedigree is in no doubt; however, it was several years before Jacqui was persuaded to take up the microphone. With two award winning albums behind her, Jacqui is now touring the UK with material from a new record, a group of the finest British musicians and a show not to be missed. Her live concert draws on all kinds of influences including Jazz, Soul, Folk and Blues.

Currently a full time farming estate, Childerley dates back to Tudor times and its wonderful gardens and Jacobean Chapel look set to provide a picturesque and unusual backdrop for a memorable evening.

AN EVENING with DAME CLEO LAINE and SIR JOHN DANKWORTH

AN EVENING with DAME CLEO LAINE and SIR JOHN DANKWORTH
Thaxted Parish Church
Cleo Laine and John Dankworth are celebrating a most distinguished musical partnership that started when Cleo auditioned for John's band in Soho in the early 1950s. Cleo is acclaimed worldwide for her fascinating voice with its subtlety of colour and range, while John is famed as instrumentalist, composer and conductor. They have enjoyed particular success in the United States working with many giants of the jazz world and where John became musical director, among others, for Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Oscar Peterson.

Their 80th birthday tribute concert with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican in February was a sell-out and we expect their visit to Thaxted, with John's quintet, to be received with equal enthusiasm!

Preston Reed

Preston Reed
Mumford Theatre, The
Drawing on blues, rock, funk and jazz influences among others, multi award winning musician Preston Reed weaves and melds genres, rhythms and textures to produce a signature sound that has earned him world renown for its emotional power and stylistic creativity. Playing an array of guitars from acoustic to electric to classical, Reeds vast range of explosively original music will forever change your expectation of a guitarist. Reed engages the entire instrument, creating a rock/jazz rhythm section, melody line and chordal accompaniment simultaneously. He riffs with the conviction and guts of a rock band, yet plays with the subtlety of that most delicate of jazz pianists, Bill Evans. There are no fancy gadgets or gimmicky FX - just 6 strings (or occasionally 12), two hands and a daring and innovative musical imagination that crosses all boundaries.
