Some background information: This solemn mass was meant to be sung for the installation of Archduke Rudolph, Beethoven's patron, in 1819. The precision by which Beethoven had taken on this task, resulted in the completion of the mass only by 1823. It received much praise after its first performance in St. Petersburg from Prince Galitzin. He described it as 'masterly harmony' and 'moving melody'. Guided by the melody, Beethoven created music that tests the limits in range, vocal dexterity and stamina of all voices. A piece of music of the highest standing, in every meaning of the word

Cambridge Water fundraising concert

Cambridge Water fundraising concert
King's College Cambridge

Want to hear beautiful music performed in a stunning venue and raise funds for charity at the same time?

Cambridge Water is hosting a fundraising concert at King’s College Chapel on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 8pm.

The concert is being performed by the Cambridge University Musical Society and world-famous mezzo soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers. It will feature Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3, Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Respighi’s Fountains of Rome.

Tickets are still available priced at £20, or £5.75 without a view of the performance (please see the attached flyer).
The concert is being organised by Cambridge Water to raise funds for WaterAid, the UK’s only national charity dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education. All the funds raised will go to help the people of Burkina Faso where only half the population have access to clean water and fewer still – only 12 per cent - have access to sanitation. The money will contribute towards activities such as sinking boreholes, building school latrines and providing training and equipment for hygiene volunteers. These are tangible benefits which ultimately reduce suffering and save lives.

The evening promises to be one of the must see events of the year and is a fantastic opportunity for all. To book your tickets please call 01223 403176 or email: annalise.lister@cambridge-water.co.uk
