Alice Russell

Alice Russell
Junction 2, The
Alice Russell has gained an enviable reputation as one of the hottest singers in the UK right now. Her tracks with the Quantic and Quantic Soul Orchestra projects helped elevate her profile further.

Alice's lavishly soulful voice is both timeless and up to the minute modern. Live or on record, she always performs with her trademark self assurance and sass. Her style is a predominantly bluesy, soul lament but encompasses everything from funk to gospel to jazz and beyond. Her performances captivate the audience and command its attention.

Eli "PaperBoy" Reed

Eli "PaperBoy" Reed

"There are singers who sing and there are singers whose sheer power of expression can knock you off your feet. Eli 'Paperboy' Reed falls firmly into the latter category ... [he] threatens to be one of the defining voices of the year" - MOJO

"In the past comparisons have been made between Reed and soul heavyweights such as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, but tonight the 24 year-old Bostonian is his own man, using his Mississippi apprenticeship to inform tracks such as Am I Wasting My Time, Walking And Talking (the title track of his debut album) and It's Easier with a rare fire and passion." Fuzzy Lights Album Launch

Fuzzy Lights Album Launch
Portland Arms, The
FUZZY LIGHTS
This event celebrates the release of the new Fuzzy Lights album on Little Red Rabbit Records.
Formed in Cambridge in 2004, Fuzzy Lights create haunted, visceral music that pulls and tugs at its moorings. Hard to pigeonhole as they combine both folk purity and psychedelic guitar noise with echoes of more traditional blues/Americana, their reverb-soaked, semi-improvised music is now collected on their debut album 'A Distant Voice' (released November 24th). Fans of The Dirty Three, Grails and Neil Young will find much to love here.

DEAD RAT ORCHESTRA
This Colchester based collective is all about channeling energies into making some heart bursting beguiling music. Since they started playing together, their line up has shifted but their folk-centric minimalist improvisations are always mind blowing experiences.

LAST OF THE REAL HARDMEN
LOTRHM creates Instrumental Fahey-esque musings that will chill your bones and warm your cockles. Based in Nottingham, Chris Summerlin has been creating noise and beauty in equal measure in a variety of bands for many years now (including Reynolds and Wolves of Greece) and currently makes fine rock music with Lords. We see him tonight playing with new Fuzzy Lights addition Patrick Farmer on drums.

A Crushing Death & Grief Gig, see www.crushingdeath.com for further details.

The Morning People

As you may have noticed, the impending financial apocalypse means that newspapers are currently full of space-filling columns suggesting feeble and impractical ways to save money. So, if you've already put your unwanted goods on eBay and switched the weekly shop to Aldi, what else can you do to trim the bills?

Well, under normal circumstances, if you wanted to go and see a gig by Cambridge superstar, Broken Family Band frontman and legendary nice guy Steven J Adams, you'd have to pay. After all, he has to live. But this Saturday brings a unique chance to see him perform a headline set for nowt, courtesy of the good people at the Globe Ale House.

There's fine support from country-blues singer-songwriter David Greeves and semi-resident weirdos The Morning People, there's ace DJing from Will, and it really, really won't cost you a penny.
