The Music

The Music
Junction 1, The
Originally formed in 1999, The Music are one of the most enduring bands on the indie scene. Influenced by the Madchester groups of the late eighties and early nineties, with a definite leaning towards the Oasis breed of loud, sleazy rock'n'roll, The Music have managed to survive the onslaught of newer, more crisp indie bands by staying just exactly as they are.

The All New Adventures Of Us

The All New Adventures Of Us

"Tanaou lives in Northampton, England... where shoes come from.

We are seven strong and seven years old. We like to make things, write things, play things & draw things.

We run our own record label called GOOD GUYS WEAR BLACK B.R. (Bedroom Recordings), which is pretty much a vinyl only label (occasionally we do limited handmade cassettes too). We started the label to release our own music aswell as other stuff that we like & support. We're also just starting to put out a few independent books too, the first one being "Everything Is Better Under Covers" By Jaime (Tanaou), which is out in July and is a collection of short stories, poetry & other writings... There a few others on the way too.

We do most of our recordings in a studio in Umea, in the North of Sweden where our friend and practically our eighth member Magnus Lindberg (who also plays in the band Cult Of Luna) helps us put our music onto tape. We've made so many great friends and spent so much time there in the 5 years since we first started going there that the Umea snow feels just as much like home as Northampton does.

The only loose objective of Tanaou is to create some nice sounds, tell some stories, see some new places, spend time with our friends and make some new ones, but if by doing theses things we can make a few people think a little harder and dig a little deeper then that's very much cool by us!"

The Federals

The Federals

Formed in a garage, The Feds play energetic 60's style trashy youth garage described as the soundtrack to THE REVOLUTION! Sounding like The Who, The Stooges and The Kinks, they bring an old style into a modern age. With the worlds smallest drummer and a singer who sounds like he's smoking 100 a day this band has been described as the hippest new band in York without even realising it.

The Grisettes

The Grisettes

The Grisettes Formed over sandwiches and tea for 99p in the "wrong end" of Brick Lane was the promising exchange of names (fake, in the case of the Rent Boy) and Oscar Wilde quotes between Rents, Spud, and Begbie. With the common ambition of reviving the quixotic Romantic Ideal, in the shape of rejection and contempt for conformation and obsessive eating of literature and exploring towns and villages alike, relationships with the Muses were begrudgingly admitted and the planning of escape began.

In the following scramble to find and collect as many bohemians and enlightened poets as we could, it took a long session of merciless tickling of Tommy before she gave up her skill in saxophone, piano, and all round art. Although all multi instrumentalists, none of us could play the drums. Hope came in the form of Sick Boy: tall and pretty, with a total lack of self-restraint and, most importantly, her own drum kit.

Stuck with a lack of cash, space, and time... let the new age begin.

Dag For Dag

Dag For Dag
Barfly - closed 4 June 2008
Dag for Dag are an American Born, Stockholm based Alternative Tropical Rock Band whose delicate, winsome melodies and interchanging boy/girl vocal lines will certainly appeal to fans of Belle And Sebastian and their ilk. But beneath their folky exterior the band have a knack of writing dark, wry, arresting pop songs.

The Get-Up Forward

The Get-Up Forward
Barfly - closed 4 June 2008

The Get Up Forward: This unruly bunch of musical miscreants, first met on the cloudy shoreline of an island named desire. A mutual desire in fact, to create a livid, sensuous, soul expanding journey into the very innards of those rare, clarity infested, zen like meditative moments which have been known only by a handful of latter day Catholic saints, Tibetan Buddhist monks, Dalai Lamas, Prophetic artists, Himalayan explorers, and shrimp farmers. Alas, few if any of the above have ever truly achieved the 'nirvana' like state of mind, body, soul and being which has been hinted at for millenia by worthy scribes, (far worthier than I) and chased for eternity by a plethora of absurd fools intent on focussing more on the finish line, rather than the true substance of the race being ran with such blind sided zeal.
