Oxford - Snorkel

Oxford - Snorkel
Modern Art Oxford

Sub-aquatic explorations of dub, jazz, afro-beat, krautrock and electronica. This London based collective is propelled by drums with guitar, trombone, synths, vocals and various samplers / electronics. Using psychedelic repetition and intense polyrhythmic grooves, they create unruly music with an infectious beat.

Simon Bookish + Leafcutter John - Oxford

Simon Bookish + Leafcutter John - Oxford
Modern Art Oxford

Simon Bookish + Leafcutter John perform a special set of strange and delicate new versions of the Bookish back catalogue with live electronics. Simon Bookish makes pop music that is steeped in playful experimentalism. His rich, distinctive voice gives soul to his catchy songs. He has worked with artists including Patrick Wolf, Saint Etienne, Max de Wardener, Franz Ferdinand, Grizzly Bear and Late of the Pier. Leafcutter John creates beautifully delicate electronica, layering sounds (often captured from nature), acoustic instruments and touching vocals. He is also a member of Polar Bear (Mercury Music Prize nominees).

Portland Arms, The
Rock with Electronics
Live garage psych/blues/electronics improv rock. Debut gig for new project featuring MFU, The Doozer and Ben from United Snakes. Full vinyl album due out early 2009 on Outer Music.

Um
More often seen playing in Germany than in Cambridge lately in the company of Felix Kubin whose Gagarin label release the vinyl-only collection 'No Pressure' this year, UM makes an overdue return to Bad Timing.
'Junk shop electronica from a one man mind mental, there's some seriously barmy, disjointed vibes bouncing around in these bendy but catchy grooves. John Callahan, early Baby Bird, Wevie Stonder, Felix Kubin & Manchester's wonderful Superqueens are handy reference points.' Norman Records

Canaveral
We heart noise/electronics/lofi/randomness/weird shit and experiments. Cambridge-based almost lineup-free project, previously seen undermining Sic Alps, Elapse-O, a.P.A.t.T. and Rolo Tomassi in Cambridge.

Goldfrapp

Goldfrapp
Cambridge Corn Exchange, The
Sublime pop magicians Goldfrapp visit the Cambridge Corn Exchange in October as part of their brand new UK tour.

This year has seen Goldfrapp cement their reputation as one of the best and most thrillingly inventive British live acts around.

Starting the year with unique acoustic show at London's Union Chapel through to spectacular main stage/headline performances at Glastonbury and Lovebox, the band have wowed audiences across the UK and Europe this year.

Live highlights so far include special performances at Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall complete with orchestra, choir and full band, and the Goldfrapp dancers - pole dancing lovelies and the surreal Rag Men - who thrilled and amused in equal measure. Their sold-out UK tour in June culminated with an electrifying Royal Albert Hall show that saw 5,000 people joyously singing along to recent hit single ‘Happiness'.

Goldfrapp have also become a firm favourite on the international festival circuit with memorable performances at Sonar, Roskilde and Coachella amongst others.

"A privilege to witness" The Observer
