The Red Lion Hotel was founded as priory in the 13th century by an Order of the Carmelites. The exquisite beams, hand carved by the monks, are still as strong today as they were over eight hundred years ago and are some of the finest examples of their kind still in existence.

Today the present owners have done much to preserve and restore the original history and character of this listed building whilst providing modern facilities for all guests.

Every Friday evening in the bar we host the Red Lion folk club. Newcomers are always welcome to sing, play or just have a pint and enjoy the music. The folk club also run the annual ‘Red Lion Folk Day' in July where they host music and dance workshops and we provide the barbeque.

Every second Sunday there is live jazz in the Function room, entrance fee applies.
