Free Your Voice Workshop
Unitarian Church Hall

Find out how to connect with your voice, physically, emotionally or spiritually. During the course we work with the body that sounds and the spirit that sings. Exercises are designed to energise and liberate both! There are physical and vocal warm-ups, individual exploration, and group singing. Relaxation, centred breathing and toning help you to resound! A variety of music is chosen to inspire, delight, release and 'tune up' the group.

You need no previous experience and there is no age limit. There are many moments of fun and enjoyment while providing you the chance to reconnect to the resources that can energise you and empower your voice.

For booking information visit www.sounds-enchanting.com

Mary Benefiel is a trained singer and voice teacher who has led groups in America, Eurpoe and the UK. Her work is with the authentic voice, and about people reclaiming their right to 'live out loud'.

A Day of Yiddish Song with Hilda Bronstein and accompanist Yair Schleider
West Road Recital Room

Moving Tone, in partnership with the Jewish Music Institute, SOAS (http://www.jmi.org.uk) is delighted to announce a workshop and masterclass in Yiddish song on Sunday 28 February.

Yiddish, a language of the Jews, has a flavour all of its own. Rooted in Eastern Europe with close ties to the German tongue, it continues to influence the world of music through its living traditions of theatrical, folk and art songs. Its vibrant rhythms and captivating melodies, along with compelling tales of life and love, create song that enraptures the listener.

Song workshop – 10am-12noon
In this song workshop Hilda will teach a number of Yiddish songs, explain their meaning, and discuss how to interpret the songs in performance. The workshop is aimed at the novice learner so no previous knowledge of Yiddish music or language is required.

Song masterclass – 2pm-4pm
This masterclass is for vocalists who wish to enhance their performance skills through the medium of Yiddish song. It is aimed at experienced singers who perform, or teach singing voice.

Leader – Hilda Bronstein (www.chiribim.com)

The day of Yiddish song will be led by Hilda Bronstein. She is one of Europe’s leading interpreters of Yiddish song. She was the winner of the 2008 Mira Rafalowicz Prize for the Best Yiddish Song Interpretation at the Amsterdam International Jewish Music Festival.
She has performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Spiro Ark, London. In 2007 she released her first solo CD to great critical acclaim. A lover of Yiddish song since childhood, she trained in voice at the Royal College of Music, London.

Hilda will be joined in both sessions by accompanist Yair Schleider, an experienced performer of Yiddish and Klezmer music.

Dances of Universal peace with Ralph & Vitalija - a join-in singing dancing circle

Dances of Universal peace with Ralph & Vitalija - a join-in singing dancing circle
Bharat Bhavan Mill Road

"An experience beyond words...
We move and breathe and sing together in a circle, holding hands, like one organism.
Like a cell in the body, remembering being part of something much bigger than the small self.
The separated individuality may dissolve into a blissful state of oneness with the group.
Simultaneous chanting and dancing are fundamental expressions of our creativity,
which gets inspired and stimulated through these Dances of Universal Peace.
The Dances of Universal Peace are a spiritual practice:
all chakras get involved or even activated.
A deep, soulful sense of joy may be felt.
Tears may flow, when the soul begins to remember it's deep longing...

The dances can be a bridge to awakening, connecting with the Divine.
Your voice may open up and your breathing can become deeper and free.
All sorts of things may happen during or after the dancing, often on a subtle level.
We usually hug each other. These hugs can be very healing and comforting..."

Cost: £6 (or less, if you can't afford this)

More see http://www.rainbow-cambridge.org.uk/dances/

From 2010 we'll meet on the 3rd Wed / month in the FMH Jesus Lane 8-10pm.
