Special screening of Feature by Shezad Dawood
Wysing Arts Centre
Last summer Wysing Arts Centre commissioned Shezad Dawood to create an alternative Western on our 11 acre site. The result is a 56 minute long film that explores the slippage between live performance and cinematic representation. Zombies, cowboys, a donkey and a Valkyrie opera singer all appear, alongside artists Doug Fishbone and Jimmie Durham, as well as the many local people who took part in the production. A new publication on Feature, by Book Works London, will be available on the night. Screening FREE, just turn up.

Henry Rollins: Spoken Word

Henry Rollins: Spoken Word
Junction 1, The

If Henry Rollins were a question on a multiple-choice quiz, the correct answer would be "D. All of the above." Best known to some as the frenetic frontman for punk rock legends Black Flag and later the Rollins Band, and to others for his sharp-tongued spoken performances, Henry Rollins is an actor and an author. He's a businessman and a philanthropist. He's a GRAMMY-nominated singer and a GRAMMY-winning spoken word artist. He's an ad pitchman, a USO veteran, a world traveler and a TV host. And above all else, he's a tireless performer, averaging more than 100 shows a year for the past two and a half decades.

Spoken Word
Henry followed up his show "Caught in the Zipper" - a two-week run at New York's Zipper Theater in March and April 2005 - with four shows in two nights at McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA on April 15 and 16, 2005, with his share of the proceeds going to Hollygrove Children & Family Services in Los Angeles. In May 2005, he completed a sold-out and critically acclaimed tour in Australia. His most recent stint at New York's Town Hall became an IFC television special entitled "Uncut from NYC."

"25 Years of Bullshit" saw Henry celebrate his 25year history on the road with an extensive North American tour from August through November 2005 and into Australia and Europe during early 2006.

Glampunkska 3

Glampunkska 3

‘Glampunkska' is the brainchild of Cambridge musician, Mark Tingey and was born out of his desire to encapsulate the musical essence of the 1970's. Back then it all began with theatrical Glam Rock, followed by the musical revolution of Punk Rock and ending the decade with the sounds of Ska, which was a dominant force both in the charts and on a more underground level. All of these genres not only share one of the most influential and iconic musical decades of all time, but each one represents the dynamic and changing voice of the youth of its day. This ‘voice' may have grown older, the coiffure and spiky hair may be grey or gone altogether, but there is still a huge fan base going strong after 30 plus years and the possibility of its celebration by bringing it all together on one glorious night was too good an opportunity for Mark to miss.

Forged out of a sense of shared frustration and lack of purpose, The Shills were formed by brothers Tom and Olly Yates and childhood allies Dickon Collinson and Brian Zielinski-Smith. Six months into their musical collaboration they enlisted the talents of Rob D'Ath and set about creating an engaging, evocative and compelling sound. The Shills have combined the subtlety and poetry of The Smiths, with the vitriolic passion of the Manic's, and believe they will soon be catapulted out of their emasculating surroundings and into the minds of many.Starting with gigs around Cambridge in 2006, they subsequently recorded a demo, ‘The Flightpath Sessions’, which led to radio play and gigs supporting New York’s Five O’clock Heroes, Leeds based Kid Id and Johnny Panic.

We will do everything we can behind the scenes to support this. If any of you want to join us on the organisational side of things, please let us know.
