Choir 2000 'Come and Sing' Choral Day, Saturday 29th May 2010
Histon Baptist Church

Building on the success of previous Choral Days, Histon-based Choir 2000 is again offering an opportunity to study Mozart's beautiful Vesperae Solennes de Confessore under the skilled direction of David Hill who, although of international fame, is still closely connected to this area.

David Hill is widely respected as both a choral and orchestral conductor in this country and abroad. At present he is the Chief Conductor of the BBC Singers, Musical Director of the Bach Choir, Music Director of the Leeds Philharmonic Society and Chief Conductor of The Southern Sinfonia.

The day will start at 9.30am with a short warm-up piece, 'Hamba Lulu' before moving on to the main work. We finish with a 'performance' open to the public free of charge at around 4.30pm. The day will finish at around 5.15pm.

We also arrange a lunchtime hog roast at a local pub if there is sufficient interest.

Enrolment for the day is £12 - scores are included and CD rehearsal files are available at a small extra charge. A registration form can be downloaded from our website at: http://www.choir2000.org/

St Mary's Church, Saffron Walden

Cambridge Chorale (adult category finalists in BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year 2008) return to the beautiful setting of St Mary’s Church, Saffron Walden, with a superb programme of American-themed choral works.

Leonard Bernstein’s intriguing transatlantic commission, Chichester Psalms, performed here in its chamber version of organ, harp and percussion, is set alongside Michael Tippett’s moving arrangements of African-American spirituals taken from his oratorio, A Child of Our Time. Further choral masterpieces featured include Samuel Barber’s exquisite Agnus Dei, and Water Night from the USA’s hottest contemporary composer, Eric Whitacre. Finally, five of the best-loved American folk songs – including Yankee Doodle and Shenandoah – are given an imaginative makeover, courtesy of English arranger Daryl Runswick.

Tickets are available from Cambridge Corn Exchange box office in person or on 01223 357851 and on the door. Groups of 5 or more contact info@cambridgechorale.org.uk for discounted bookings.
