John Martyn
Cambridge Corn Exchange, The
The legendary singer/songwriter John Martyn returns to the Corn Exchange, following his performance last year of the Solid Air album. John recently won the Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, receiving his award from Phil Collins and a personal message of congratulations from Eric Clapton. His music has romanced generation after generations for more than 40 years, with his powerfully heartfelt songwriting as relevant now as ever thanks to the homage paid by a new movement of folk artists. Fuelled by his huge voice and staggering guitar playing, there is a always a near-religious intensity to a John Martyn show.

John Martyn will revisit his classic album, Grace and Danger, for this very special UK tour. He will also be showcasing new material as well as playing some of his best loved songs.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to see the Scottish songwriting genius.

Dick Gaughan

Dick Gaughan
Portland Arms, The
Dick has been a professional musician and singer since Jan 1970. Has been playing guitar since the age of 7 and made his first solo album in 1971. Working mainly in the areas now known as "Folk" or "Celtic" music, he has recorded quite extensively since then in many countries and in various combinations. Has also worked extensively as a session musician in a wide variety of musical styles.

Having very eclectic tastes, he also plays everything from free jazz and rock to country music and has studied orchestration to develop his compositional and midi programming skills. He plays most fretted stringed instruments but his natural instrument, and perhaps what he is happiest doing, is acoustic guitar. His greatest musical love is for the ancient traditional Scots ballads. Also know as The Muckle Sangs (the big songs), these are the big story songs which form a substantial part of Scotland's living wealth of traditional song.

Clive Carroll

Clive Carroll
CB2
CLIVE CARROLL
Clive Carroll has already established himself as a world class acoustic guitarist. Acoustic Guitar magazine called him "Probably the best and most original young guitar player in Britain" and John Renbourn described his first album as "a milestone on the journey of the steel-string guitar".

In 1998, he was given the opportunity to play at his local pub with John Renbourn who encouraged him to record a solo album, "Sixth Sense", which received an unusually high level of attention from radio shows, reviewers and journalists. Over the next two years Renbourn took Clive on tour all over Europe and America.

"a richly talented player and composer who should be applauded for his eclecticism as much as his virtuosity" - Get Rhythm

MICHAEL BERK
For the last 10 years Michael Berk has been stunning audiences around the UK, performing over 200 shows with little more than a guitar and the occasional percussionist.
London's famous 12 Bar Club calls him "one of the few truly gifted acoustic guitar players around... a true virtuoso". Michael has already been compared to the likes of Michael Hedges, Adrian Legg and Preston Reed, and the intricate compositions on his debut CD "Organized Chaos" certainly invite comparisons with these masters.

Cara Luft

Cara Luft
CB2
CARA LUFT
Canadian Cara Luft was a founder member of The Wailin' Jennys and is turning heads with her blend of roots, folk, rock and country music. With her unique Alt-Roots sound, Luft has a richly deserved reputation as a triple threat: powerfully elegant guitar work, imaginative songwriting and a distinctive voice that penetrates to the core.

With rhythmic grooves, fleet fingers and a commanding resonant sound, Cara is a guitar maven of open tunings, branching out into mandolin and clawhammer banjo. Her writing is a blend of social commentary, imagination and musical intensity. In performance she balances pathos with joy, telling hilarious stories between songs.

Cara will be appearing with Hugh McMillan on bass and vocals.

NAVARO
Navaro combines the talents of singer/songwriters Beth Navaro, Pete White and Steve Austin. Now a beautifully formed trio they create a melodic 'singers collective' where the sound is about voices and the song is the star. The trio share lead vocal duties and combine in ways determined by the song. In some respects they follow in the tradition of Crosby, Stills and Nash.

GUS MACGREGOR
Gus MacGregor is the former front man of Loman and is an accomplished singer/songwriter whose style has been compared to Paul Simon, Don McLean, Damian Rice and Bob Dylan. As an actor he was nominated for an Olivier Award in 2000. Since then he been writing, performing and recording with a range of artists including Judie Tzuke, KD Lang, Ray Lamontagne, Nizlopi and Glen Tilbrook.
