The Lucy Cavendish Singers were formed in 2008 and have rapidly acquired a reputation for intimate, powerful and heartfelt performances. Small in number but with a big sound, their wide-ranging repertoire spans every musical genre – from plainsong to traditional songs and from opera to musicals. This concert will include works by Mozart, Verdi and Duruflé, as well as Sondheim, Bernstein and Barber. It will also feature solo performers and small ensembles.

St Mary's Church, Saffron Walden

The Parish church of Saint Mary the Virgin is the largest in Essex, with an overall length of 183 feet, whilst the height of the tower and spire is 193 feet.

The East Saxons who gave their name to Essex were pagan, but after St.Cedd led their conversion to Christianity in the 7th century there was in all probability a Saxon wooden church here, The massive Norman stone church that was known to exist in 1130 was rebuilt and enlarged in the early form of the 'Decorated' period between 1250 and 1258.

A general rebuilding in the 'Perpendicular' style was begun in about 1450 and the present church takes a high place, from an architectural point of view, among the parish churches of England. The spire, however, is more modern, for it was built, and the upper part of the tower was renewed, in 1832, to the design of Messrs. Rickman and Hutchinson.

The church now hosts music events, fairs and other activities throughout the year providing a thriving centre for the community.

The (PCGC) Peterborough Community Gospel Choir, has been running since 2002. It was formed by Errol Ballantyne the Choir Director. Its main purpose is to give people the opportunity to sing in a gospel choir and to entertain the community by singing at various events. The choir has sung at Nursing Homes, the East of England Showground, Cathedral Square, Queensgate shopping centre, Thorpe Hall Cancer research, and on the BBC3 spendaholic TV show. They can also be heard on one of the Songs of Paul Copestake, recorded at the Eye Studio, Peterborough. This year we have been asked to back the Rock Band 'Scream Blue Murder' at the BMF British motorbike Federation at the Showground on the (16th May 08).

Errol Ballantyne started teaching in January 2002 when he founded the Peterborough Community Gospel Choir. Prior to 2002 he sang in a number of Gospel Choirs and has played keyboards for others. He has performed at weddings and different functions and on the night ushering in the Millenium sang and played with a Gospel Choir before approximately 25,000 people. In 2003 he was part of the Praise Project that organised singing workshop and sang in Humberside.
