We welcome deft songstress Laura McGarrigle back from her self-imposed exile on the continent just in time to release her debut EP, as well as the brooding noise antics of Tenebrous Liar - little-known overlords of a somewhat rougher universe. Local lads Holden Girls will be on hand too, providing their seamless brand of shoegazey dream-pop.

The evening exhibits work by surrealist photographer & Art Salon contributor Karl Dmitri Bishop, commissioned to produce imagery in response to the above. His highly constructed shots veil their subjects in obscurity like scenes from dreams, exploring themes such as spirituality and gender.

Tenebrous Liar:
http://www.tenebrousliar.com/

Inigo:
http://soundcloud.com/coco-lico

Holden Girls:
http://holdengirls.bandcamp.com/

Karl Dmitri Bishop:
http://karldmitribishop.blogspot.co.uk/
acoustic alternative dream pop gigs - acoustic gigs - electric new music and improv noise piano rock shoegaze singer songwriter Sat, 27 Oct 2012 20:52:12 +0000 Wfreemansmith 4973 at http://movingtone.com Frankie Stubbs from Leatherface http://movingtone.com/events/frankie-stubbs-leatherface

Start: 24 Jan 2009 - 20:00

End: 24 Jan 2009 - 23:00

Timezone: Etc/GMT

Frankie Stubbs is best known as the main man behind the UK punk institution that is Leatherface. In 1999 she featured on the Playpen Album of New Acoustic Music alongside Eliza Carthy, Billy Bragg, Eddi Reader and Kathryn Williams. Since then she has trodden an independent path, recording three albums and gaining a growing reputation as a performer and songwriter. Her highly impressive debut album "Seven Sisters Road" received rave reviews and showed the influence of people like Clive Gregson and Christine Collister while still being fresh and original. Since then she has released two further albums, "Vanishing Girl", and the latest, "Beachcomber", which confirm that she is one of our finest singer/songwriters. She will be joined by Ian Newman on double bass and Warwick Jones on guitar
Since a chance meeting in a hostel in Barcelona in 2000, the unique acoustic magic of Ember has delighted audiences all over the world - from California to Mexico, Ireland to Spain. The simple yet moving music centres around the miraculous blending of two very different voices: that of Welsh songstress Emily Williams, who also sails through the mix with her violin and sets up chunky rhythms with her nylon-strung guitar, and that of Rebecca Sullivan of Utah who fingerpicks a sparkling steel-string, and breaks out the harmonica for a song or two. You could call it contemporary folk - with an edge - and the group has been compared to Indigo Girls, The Be Good Tanyas, Simon and Garfunkel, Tracy Chapman, Michelle Shocked, Rickie Lee Jones and Dead Can Dance.

Booking Info:
Book tickets via website: http://www.acousticroutes.co.uk
or contact: bernard@acousticroutes.co.uk
tel. 07971 299659, for information about the gigs only.
folk gigs - acoustic singer songwriter Sat, 29 Nov 2008 15:46:54 +0000 Sandra 2245 at http://movingtone.com Elkie Brooks http://movingtone.com/events/elkie-brooks

Start: 31 Jan 2009 - 19:30

End: 31 Jan 2009 - 23:00

Timezone: Etc/GMT

We at The Corn Exchange are delighted to announce a one-off date by singer songwriter Elkie Brooks.
Elkie Brooks is one of the most successful and popular singers the UK has ever produced and is still proving to be one of the most powerful and versatile vocal talents of our generation. After getting into heavy metal and buying a guitar, he formed punk band Million Dead in 2001. After two critically acclaimed albums the band split in 2005, with Frank deciding to pursue a solo career. As he was rediscovering the artists from his youth, such as Johnny Cash and Counting Crows, he found himself getting more into country and folk, and swapped his electric guitar for an acoustic.
He started touring and hasn't stopped since, clocking up around 350 shows across Europe and America. His debut album in 2007, 'Sleep Is For The Week', received great reviews and was shortlisted for the XFM New Music Award. The follow up, 'Love, Ire & Song', was released in March, and is starting to amass similarly great praise. His razor sharp observations, strong mix of love songs and anecdotes, and social commentaries have led him to be described as a "Billy Bragg for twenty-something punks".

A Junction & Green Mind Event in association with Cambridge Folk Festival.

Booking Info:
Book online on The Junction website www.junction.co.uk or ring 01223 511511

gigs - acoustic punk singer songwriter Wed, 26 Nov 2008 21:50:58 +0000 Sandra 2190 at http://movingtone.com The Living Room Live http://movingtone.com/events/living-room-live-3

Start: 11 Dec 2008 - 20:30

End: 11 Dec 2008 - 23:00

Timezone: Etc/GMT

The Living Room is, according to NME, the premier acoustic night in Cambridge.
