Brian Houston is from Belfast and is one of the UK's finest singer/ songwriters. As heard live on Radio 2's Bob Harris show his brand of lively and passionate folk rock demonstrates his finely tuned melodic sense and clever, astutely commercial writer's ear. Houston is a natural communicator, an extremely unpretentious artist, and a definitive crowd-pleaser. He ensures that there is heartfelt lyrical substance behind every song, a glimpse of his easy humorous rapport with an audience, ensures that they always leave with a copy of his CD and a smile.

He has opened for people such as Elvis Costello, Dr John and Van Morrison and in 2004 released the acclaimed album Thirteen Days which was declared Alt Country album of the year by BBC Radio Ulster. Again garnering airplay on Radio 2, this album also lead to a glowing review in Paste Magazine in America. His new CD Sugar Queen is already his biggest seller.

Clara Kousah is a singer/songwriter from Cambridge with a wonderfully rich, spell-binding voice and a writing style that staggers from the deeply emotional to a light and trouble-free carelessness.
She has been described as sounding like a cross between Joni Mitchell and Siouxsie and the Banshees, with hints of Evanescence, All About Eve and Ani DiFranco in the mix, and describes her own influences as ranging from the likes of Suzanne Vega to metal heads Megadeth.

American Bob Rafkin was much in demand as a session musician in the 60s and 70s but it is in the last 10 years that he has come into his own as a premier singer, songwriter and guitar finger stylist.
He played on sessions for Gene Vincent, The Everly Brothers, Randy Newman and Arlo Guthrie. and songwriting career took flight in the early seventies with his song "Lazy Waters," covered by the Byrd's on their LP, "Farther Along." Bob's first-rate guitar playing was in demand for Tim Buckley's "Sefronia" album and Augie Meyer's 1973 LP "Western Head Music Company."
Dirty Linen - "He's an exceptional guitarist, has a smooth, pleasing voice, and his years spent in the studio show in the simple, yet effective arrangements."

Pavlov's Cat: Formed in 1999 this very English sounding group play melodic, rolling songs with the emphasis on dynamics and organic sounds. They are lyrically cynical, occasionally dark but not without a glimmer of optimism. James Hibbins' spartan acoustic guitar and rich vocals are now accompanied by Bernard Hoskin on acoustic bass.

Always very vocal about his love of traditional Scottish folk music as well as groups such as Fairport Convention and the Incredible String Band, Roddy has decided to take time out from Idlewild to collaborate on an album´s worth of songs that take these influences and mix them with Idlewild´s trademark soaring melodies and thoughtful lyrics.
Plus special guests Heidi Talbot and Boo Hewerdine.

1.5 hour weekly voice workshops on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 pm - 9pm. The Odd Fellows Hall, 131 Newmarket Road, Cambridge. We sing indian scales, african, georgian, sufi, gospel and much more. Uplifting songs frm different traditions and cultures in harmony and rounds. All songs are taught by ear, which will improve your music listening/singing abilitiy. We work with harmony. There is space for the more experienced to improvise. The voice workship is lead by Radha.
