His shows are dynamic and intense, while remaining approachable and fun loving. With well known songs such as 'Another Train', 'The Shepherds Song', and 'When we sing together', he constantly tours, either solo, performing his own material or his one man theatre show, 'The Millers Tale with the songs of Bob Dylan'. He is part of an annual December Christmas show with Maggie Boyle and Chris Parkinson and also a traditional folk music project with Roger Wilson. His 'Frapping' (folk rap) technique of marrying traditional folk choruses with rap have been well received and will feature highly on a new CD due for release in January 1014.</p> <p> Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and singing. Pete sings from the heart, delivering songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. With a passionate, strong voice and strident guitar style, traditional songs often rub shoulders with Pete's current writing with remarkable ease. His songs are an unruly mix of humour, politics, love and social comment, wrapping their way around the folk tradition. </p> <p> Pete has recorded eight solo albums of original material and a project album of traditional songs entitled 'Trespass'. Two albums as 'Urban Folk' with Roger Wilson and Simon Edwards, an album of traditional and contemporary songs with Jo Freya, and a collection of his most requested songs 'Napoleon Jukebox'.</p> contemporary folk folk-music gigs - acoustic Sun, 08 Sep 2013 07:54:53 +0000 Dunton Folk 5182 at http://movingtone.com Dunton Folk - Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar in Concert http://movingtone.com/events/dunton-folk-greg-russell-and-ciaran-algar-concert <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-start"><label>Start: </label>20 Jul 2013 - 12:05</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-tz"><label>Timezone: </label>Etc/GMT</div></div> <p>Winners of the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award 2013.</p> <p>In 2011 multi-instrumentalist Ciaran (Fiddle, Bouzouki, Guitar, Vocals) met and joined forces with Chester-born Greg (Vocals, Guitar, Bouzouki, English Concertina) to form a duo with an "amazing level of energy, ability and stagecraft" (The Prospect Folk Club, Runcorn). In recent years they have been resident performers at Hitchin Folk Club, itself established over 40 years! Did you know that midsummer bonfires were once lit on Dunstable Downs? Do you know why Charles Wells gave up a promising career at sea to start his famous brewery? Or that mineral water was once produced in the town of Flitwick, and a highwayman called Henry Claydon once lived there? With Life and Times’ performance of songs about Bedfordshire stories, customs and legends you will be informed, enlightened and entertained. Who knows..? She plays guitar, ukulele and concertina but considers her voice to be her first instrument.</p> <p>After winning the Horizon Award for best newcomer at the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Lucy’s career has gone from strength to strength establishing herself as one of the hottest performers on the UK Folk scene, pulling a full capacity audience on her Cambridge Folk Festival debut. Recently, her name has appeared on the big screen - she wrote and performed the soundtrack for a new documentary film called Folie a Deux (directed by Kim Hopkins) which premiered in Amsterdam in November 2012. </p> <p>Her debut album “Adelphi Has To Fly” was released in June 2011 by Navigator Records and was met with widespread critical acclaim both nationally and further afield. She was named by MOJO as ‘Britfolk’s most vibrant and forthright new young talent’ and attracted four star reviews from The Guardian and Maverick Magazine among others.</p> <p>"Lucy, is a breath taking presence on stage. Her unpretentious outlook and warmth melts the hearts of audiences. Her disarming personality, pitch perfect delivery and the maturity of her songs can reduce an audience to tears, but a Lucy Ward set will always send you away feeling uplifted.” Shrewsbury Folk Festival (2011) </p> <p>After getting her first guitar at the age of 14, Lucy ventured into acoustic clubs, it was there that she first heard the traditional music that she now loves. Captured by the lyrics and stories of traditional song Lucy delved further into the world of folk music, visiting clubs and sessions up and down the country before getting booked to play gigs in her own right. In 2009 Lucy reached the final of the BBC Young Folk Award and she hasn’t looked back since!</p> folk-music gigs - acoustic Thu, 04 Apr 2013 14:57:33 +0000 Dunton Folk 5062 at http://movingtone.com Brian Kennedy: ADeC Live! http://movingtone.com/events/brian-kennedy-adec-live <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-start"><label>Start: </label>28 Oct 2010 - 10:41</div></div> <div class="event-nodeapi"><div class="event-tz"><label>Timezone: </label>Etc/GMT</div></div> <p>Thursday 28 October<br /> Doors 8.15pm, concert 8.45pm </p> <p>ADeC Live!
