They played a set which ran from relatively unknown songs such as James Bond to their big hit currently stuck in every fan's head She's So Lovely, there was one theme running through every song the fact the lyrics were catchy and all the crowd had the sudden urge to dance from start to end.
They had an amazing stage presence which could be felt by every member of the crowd and made them feel involved in every song. The lead singer was particularly good at exciting everyone. It was also obvious that the band was shocked by the amount support given to them from the audience, there were no boo's but only cheers all night long for the London based three piece.
Supporting Scouting for Girls were Liverpool Indie band The Sonic Hearts, and rising singer/songwriter Jack McManus. The Sonic Hearts were somewhat below par for the event. It felt like watching a cross between The Kooks and The View with not much originality. The band used a series of party toys including silly string and balloons to try and get the crowd going but for me they needed more then that; even with the offer of a free download from the bands site, I was still not tempted to get it based on this performance.
Jack McManus reminded me of the singer Jack Johnson (not just because of the same first names either!); this was not a bad thing because despite this I felt he and his songs had a sense of originality to them. I found him refreshing and good to listen to I think he could be big, sooner rather than later.
The crowd's ages ranged from 14 to 40 which shows how much of a wide fan based Scouting For Girls have got. Soon venues such as the Junction will become too small for this band as the secret gets out of how good they actually are!
I have no doubt that Scouting For Girls will be next years must have at every festival along side bands such as the Kaiser Chiefs and the Arctic Monkeys. You heard it here first.
