Artist Visiting Cambridgeshire
Timba is the real, vibrant contemporary music of Cuba. Energetic and uplifting, timba embraces jazz, reggae, pop, funk, samba, and son as well as salsa, but it's more percussive than salsa, with a stronger bassline, building up to a ‘depelote' or climax - and very danceable!

Osvaldo Chacon began his musical career with some of Cuba's top salsa bands, including Paulito FG and El Medico de la Salsa. His first CD for ARC Music label, Salsa Afro-Cubana was recorded in Havana in 2001 with top ranking Cuban artists, and the lead track Mi Vicio was included in the Manteca compilation Salsa Timba, as well as the 2002 ARC compilation Salsa alongside salsa greats Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Ruben Blades, Willie Colon and Beny More. Meanwhile, the original music from the album has been included the the live sets of the UK based band Chacon y su Timba, which includes a line-up of the UK's foremost Cuban and Latin musicians.

The salsa maestro, Osvaldo Chacón....no one else plays timba in this country like him....' Worldbeat, Morecambe Bay Festival.
