Sinfonic family fun

sinfoniafamilyday

Britten Sinfonia is hosting a special Family Music Day at Cambridge's West Road Concert Hall on Sunday 11 October.

Starting at 11 am, the event is designed for children aged 5-12 and their families. Younger and older children are also welcome to attend.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the different sections of the orchestra, make their own instruments using everyday objects, and jam along with Britten Sinfonia in the Grand Finale.

A ticket (£9 adult, £6 children, £25 for a family ticket) buys entry to a whole day of activities, as well as the Grand Finale concert. Once you have booked, you will receive a form asking you to book for particular workshops. In between workshops, you can take part in our quizzes and competitions, get your face painted, or just take time to get your breath back before you plunge into the next activity.

Explore workshops (woodwind, brass, strings and percussion) let you find out about a section of the orchestra, and then play along with the musicians. No experience needed, but one Explore workshop in each section will be aimed at children who already have lessons on an instrument.

Instrument-making workshops are where you can get out the glue and glitter and design your very own musical instrument from everyday objects.

Gamelan workshops (for those over eight years old) are a rare opportunity to play on these amazing Indonesian instruments.

At the Grand Finale at 4pm, participants can play along with the band in a special family concert.
