Siegel flies into Barn

Julian Siegel

On Wednesday 24 September Jazznights presents saxophonist Julian Siegel, winner of the BBC Jazz Award for Best Instrumentalist of 2007. Julian will be playing with residents the Roger Odell Trio at High Barn in Great Bardfield, Essex.

John Fordham described Siegel in The Guardian as ‘that lissom, free-wheeling saxophonist'. According to Straight No Chaser he "approaches the depth and sensitivity of a Wayne Shorter or Stan Getz", while Kevin Le Gendre claimed in Echoes that ‘interfacing between the worlds of straightahead, free improv and dance grooves, Siegel posits his sonic world with a coherence and strength of character that reflects the lucidity of a man who knows exactly who he is. No matter what he plays.'

Also forthcoming at Jazznights at High Barn this year, on the last Wednesday of each month, are Julian Marc Stringle, Sara Mitra and Jo Fooks. At The Bell in Clare, Sussex, Jazznights will be presenting, on alternate Sundays, Joanna Eden, Jim Hart, Allison Neale, Art Themen, Carlos Lopez-Real, Rebop, Anita Wardell, Alan Wormald and Lewis Wright.
