209 state on their website:
'We have been unable, thus far, to secure adequate core funding and are also unable by law to generate our own on-air advertising and sponsorship revenue due to a clause in the Community Radio licence for Cambridge.
This situation will be reviewed by our regulator, Ofcom, on the 15th September but we still require urgent fundraising now, nevertheless. The amount sought will allow us to honour our commitments and also build capacity to sell advertising and sponsorship opportunities.
209 has been providing training and broadcast opportunities to the people of Cambridge for the past 5 years and have always done so in a difficult funding environment but now we really have come to a sticking point. We exist to provide opportunities for a very wide range of people, many of whom are taking great personal and developmental benefit from their work with us but who are also unable to give financial input.
If you are in a position to donate money to this charity and help us continue our work, please either use our justgiving account [click on the link below], or you can call the station on 01223 488418 and request more information.
Please, Cambridge, help us steer out of these difficult waters and continue to enrich the local airwaves'
