NEWS: Free concert by world class violinist

On Friday 15 February at 3pm in Cambridge’s Grand Arcade Shopping Centre, near the entrance to John Lewis, world class violinist Agata Szymczewska will delight shoppers with a free-of-charge solo performance which will include music by JS Bach and others ahead of her appearance with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra that evening at Cambridge Corn Exchange.  The evening concert includes Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, a towering achievement of the Romantic era.

Rod Cantrill, Cambridge City Council’s Executive Councillor for Arts, Sport and Public Places said:

‘Cambridge City Council believes that classical music can be enjoyed by everyone and is constantly looking for ways to reach out to new audiences for its prestigious Cambridge Classical Concert Series.  What better way to do this than to offer a free performance in the popular Grand Arcade?  We hope as many people as possible will come along and enjoy this special one-off performance as a taster of the treats in store in the orchestral series as whole’.

The Grand Arcade event is a joint initiative between the Corn Exchange, the Grand Arcade, orchestral series sponsors Elms Cambridge BMW and BBC Cambrigeshire, who will be co-hosting the event.

The 3pm performance at Grand Arcade on 15 February is free of charge, unticketed and places will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
