INTERVIEW: Gerry Diver talks Irish

Gerry Diver The Speech Project

The Speech Project is achingly beautiful. Gerry Diver, a talented Irish musician and multi-instrumentalist, combines recordings of the voices of well-known Irish folk musicians and singers with his own original compositions. The cadence, rhythm and metre of these Irish voices interweave seamlessly with acoustic folk instruments such as the uilleann pipes, banjo and hammered dulcimer. This is an inspiring and important album.

James Weikert recorded an interview with Gerry Diver, composer and musician, when he brought The Speech Project to the North Wall Arts Centre, Oxford. Gerry talks about his inspiration for the project as a second generation Irish person from Manchester, UK.
