The brilliant surreal singer-songwriter Robyn Hitchcock has a new album released of recordings from the 1990s.
Shadow Cat, issued on Sartorial Records, features 14 previously unissued recordings from 1993 to 1999, by the former leader of The Soft Boys, arguably Cambridge’s greatest ever rock band. The songs are all written by Hitchcock, apart from a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s The Wind Cries Mary. There are guest appearances by Moris Tepper from Captain Beefheart’s Magic Band, and Terry Edwards from Norwich’s finest The Higsons.
Meanwhile previously released recordings by the psychedelic former Trinity College student are being issued as box sets on theYep Roc label, and a film has been made about him, entitled Robyn Hitchcock: Sex, Food, Death… And Insects. As if that weren’t enough, Robyn also performs in Jonathan Demme’s new film, Rachel Getting Married.
