Street Voices, the band of musicians from the homeless community in Cambridge, is having an open "Summer Jam" this Friday, 22 August at 82 Akeman Street, just off Histon Road, Cambridge. It starts at 11am and finishes around 1pm with a sandwich lunch.
Street Voices write their own songs with influences from punk to funk, rock to pop, and a little blues and folk thrown in for good measure. Listeners have been visibly moved by the touching sentiment of their songs.
In July, Street Voices performed at the Newmarket Open Door 10th Anniversary where their patron, Terry Waite, joined in playing the banjo. With his wonderful voice he harmonised, then sent to the kitchens for some spoons, which he played to the delight of the audience, who joined in wholeheartedly.
