Extremely idiosyncratic singer John Otway will be playing a concert at The Junction on Friday 21 November. He will be performing with his Big Band, four rock musicians from Harlow who have been playing with Otway since the early nineties.

Otway has had a most extraordinary career, and he can be relied upon to perform a most extraordinary show, featuring great songs, wild rock and crazy clowning. The set is likely to include his two unlikely hits Really Free (1977) and Bunsen Burner (2002), as well as theremin solos and body-percussion.  Otway's unique voice makes up for in emotional expression what it lacks in technical refinement.

Otway has dubbed himself 'rock and roll's greatest failure', and indeed he possesses a knack for snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory, and then vice versa. His career has been sustained by a strong relationship with a devoted following, some of whom helped to vote his Beware Of The Flowers (‘Cause I'm Sure They're Going To Get You Yeh!) as the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll in 1999.

This will be Otway's third performance in Cambridge this year. He performed solo at Barfly in January, and as a duo with his old Aylesbury sparring partner Wild Willy Barrett at The Junction in April. Click on the links to read the Moving Tone reviews.
