209Radio launches new way to support your community Radio station

With less than four months until their official FM launch, community radio station 209Radio is stepping up the broadcasting, training and especially its fundraising.

209Radio are introducing a new way of supporting your community radio station through its new 'Friends of 209Radio' support scheme, designed to allow members of the public, local groups and businesses to support the work of the Cambridge community radio station through a donation.

209Radio's station manager Karl Hartland explains how important the scheme is:

'We rely entirely on grants, membership fees and donations from members of the public to survive as we are unable to take advertising on air because of our broadcasting restrictions. The friends of 209Radio scheme is aimed at people who want to support community projects in the city but may not be able to spare the time and see 209Radio as a worthwhile project which reaches out to all areas of the city.'

Formed out of an initial love for electronic music, 209Radio has come on in leaps and bounds in its relatively short history. Evolving from broadcasting on-line once a week from a front room, it is now on the verge of going full time and is the first new FM radio station for the area in nearly a decade.

'These are exciting times for 209Radio and what we will deliver to the people of Cambridge; the station's objective is to be accessible to all, and we are always welcoming new members and opportunities.'
