When Thomas Trotter received the Royal Philharmonic Society's prestigious Instrumental Award in 2002 he was described as ‘one of the foremost exponents of the organists' art'. The excellence of his musicianship has long been recognized internationally in musical partnerships with such conductors as Sir Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink and Sir Charles Mackerras and in performances in great concert halls worldwide.
His career is firmly founded on his relationship with the City of Birmingham, where he was appointed City Organist in 1983 in succession to Sir George Thalben-Ball. He is resident organist in Symphony Hall where he inaugurated the magnificent Klais organ. Among his recordings works by Mozart, Liszt and Messiaen have received particular praise.
