The Stapleford Singers and Sinfonia will be joining forces with the Orchestra and choir of Great St. Mary’s (The University Church) in a performance of Elgar’s ‘The Music Makers’. The concert will also include works by Parry and other orchestral music and promises to be an event not to be missed.
‘The Music Makers’ is a wonderful work and Elgar includes a number of quotations from his earlier compositions (Sea Pictures, The Dream of Gerontius, The Enigma Variations and both symphonies) and there is no doubting that Elgar felt a strong affinity with the words of the poem by Arthur O'Shaunessey, identifying himself with the 'dreamer of dreams'.
