Shakespeare said something about music being the food of love. Well, music and food are inextricably linked at The Green Man, Rackheath, out on the Wroxham Road, about 10 minutes' drive out of the city centre.Music comes in the form of the top-class jazz to be heard at the pub on Tuesday evenings. Older readers will undoubtedly recognise the figure of drumming legend Jack Parnell, who makes the journey from his home at Southwold each week to anchor the resident trio - although he recently celebrated his 80th birthday. Pianist Mike Capocci, along with bass player Mike Harris, completes the trio; Mike's wife, Barbara, runs the club with an efficient hand, and these sessions are a well-established part of the Norwich musical scene. Tuesday 15th July saxophonist Dean Masser appears with the Mike Capocci Trio. Free admission. Info on 01603 782693.

JO FOOKS QUINTET plays the Marigold Club, Friday, 30 DecemberJo Fooks on sax, Ted Beament on keyboards, Dave Cliff on guitar, Ed Harison on bass and Buster Birch on Drums.  After recording her debut album "Here and Now!", the legendary British trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton invited her to join his eight-piece band. With whom she toured and performed in some of the most amazing theatres and venues in Britain. Humphs fun filled and melodic approach to music was to be a huge influence. And through performing in his band Jo also recorded and worked with Acker Bilk and played alongside Tina May, Joe Temperley, Scott Hamilton, Elkie Brooks, and many others. Jo's other influences include Illinois Jacquet, Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gorden, Cannonball Aderley and Bill Evans. Her mellow tone is often compared to Stan Getz and Zoot Simms. Jo began to compose her own music in 2004 after learning and analysing a wide variety of Jazz standards.
