St Andrew and St Mary - the parish church of Grantchester

      In his poem The Old Vicarage, Grantchester, Rupert Brooke was referring to this church, the Parish Church of St Andrew & St Mary, which is in the centre of the village. It is believed that at the time he wrote the poem the clock had stopped at ten to three.

      The oldest part of the church - the chancel - dates from the 14th century, the nave and tower are 15th century, whilst the south aisle was added in the 1870s. The font is believed to be Norman, and the 17th century pulpit probably came from the chapel of Corpus Christi College.
