CAMBRIDGE CHORD COMPANY "Choir of the World"

The Cambridge Chord Company is an internationally acclaimed men's chorus that sings ‘a cappella' harmony in an entertaining and musical style. With our roots in the close four part harmonies of barbershop songs we have developed our repertoire to widen our appeal across a broader musical spectrum. We believe that we and our audiences should have fun. Our successes in barbershop competitions include; European Champions 2001 and 2005; British Champions 1999; 2002; 2004; 2006 Millennium Champions 2000. In July 2004 we scooped the supreme ‘Choir of the World' trophy at the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen winning against two Swedish mixed voice choirs and a Welsh male voice choir in the final.

Adjudicator David King said: "Make no mistake, Cambridge Chord Company were the clear winners. There have been many great Choirs of the World, but this one I'll remember. Their performance lit up the festival". Competitive singing gives a focus for the activities of the chorus but not to the exclusion of other musical performance. Under the guidance of our enormously talented Musical Director, Paul Davies, Cambridge Chord Company continues to extend its unusual and highly entertaining repertoire, most of it arranged by Paul.

Our style is continually expanding to embrace more complex forms of five and six part a cappella music. This puts the chorus in demand at shows and festivals all over the country and abroad. Cambridge Chord Company were voted "Choir of the Day" at the London heat of the 1996 Sainsbury's Choir of the Year competition - Britain's premier event for amateur choirs - and went on to appear on prime-time Christmas television in the national finals weekend. The chorus was invited back three years later as guest performers for the finals at the Royal Albert Hall. The chorus was invited to represent the UK in the World Harmony Championships in Denver in July 2007, competing against many of the top American Choruses.
