Joan As Police Woman

Joan As Police Woman
Junction 1, The
You might know Joan from her loud serrated bands The Dambuilders, Black Beetle and Those Bastard Souls. Or from playing more subtly and quietly in Anthony and The Johnsons or Rufus Wainwright's band.

Her voice and delivery have drawn comparisons with Dusty Springfield and Chrissie Hynde and her music is adjacent to jazz while being deeply soulful.

Eli "PaperBoy" Reed

Eli "PaperBoy" Reed
Soul Tree
"There are singers who sing and there are singers whose sheer power of expression can knock you off your feet. Eli 'Paperboy' Reed falls firmly into the latter category ... [he] threatens to be one of the defining voices of the year" - MOJO

"In the past comparisons have been made between Reed and soul heavyweights such as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett, but tonight the 24 year-old Bostonian is his own man, using his Mississippi apprenticeship to inform tracks such as Am I Wasting My Time, Walking And Talking (the title track of his debut album) and It's Easier with a rare fire and passion." In an almost entirely new programme of French songs, Huguette sings about "Her Men". Who are these men she wants you to encounter?

They are composers and lyricists, poets and musicians who have punctuated her life from early childhood to maturity: Prevert and Kosma, Charles Trenet, Georges Brassens and Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Jean Ferrat, Julien Clerc... Meet them and their work through her personal interpretation, rich in sensitivity, colour, humour and emotion.

As usual, to help with comprehension, each song will be introduced briefly in English.

The (PCGC) Peterborough Community Gospel Choir, has been running since 2002. It was formed by Errol Ballantyne the Choir Director. Its main purpose is to give people the opportunity to sing in a gospel choir and to entertain the community by singing at various events. The choir has sung at Nursing Homes, the East of England Showground, Cathedral Square, Queensgate shopping centre, Thorpe Hall Cancer research, and on the BBC3 spendaholic TV show. They can also be heard on one of the Songs of Paul Copestake, recorded at the Eye Studio, Peterborough. This year we have been asked to back the Rock Band 'Scream Blue Murder' at the BMF British motorbike Federation at the Showground on the (16th May 08).

Errol Ballantyne started teaching in January 2002 when he founded the Peterborough Community Gospel Choir.  Prior to 2002 he sang in a number of Gospel Choirs and has played keyboards for others.  He has performed at weddings and different functions and on the night ushering in the Millenium sang and played with a Gospel Choir before approximately 25,000 people.  In 2003 he was part of the Praise Project that organised singing workshop and sang in Humberside.
