The Research come from the University of Wakefield in West Yorkshire. They are Russell (El Diastero) on the melodies, Sarah on the rhythms and Georgia on the subs. They cut a record with Tortoise's John McEntire in 2006 called Breaking Up, released by At Large. They've supported the likes of The Cribs, The Go! Team, Maximo Park amongst others. Since leaving EMI due to political wranglings they've made a few changes and are set to hit the road again, rather handily stopping off at Cambridge.

Support from Cambridge's tweecore finest.

Lords

Lords
Portland Arms, The
LORDS
When Lords formed in 2003 their mission, if they really had one, was simply to rebel against the trend for angst and catharsis in punk rock and return to playing music that allowed for communal release and a collective party experience for both band and audience. Simply put, like ZZ Top with Elvin Jones on drums - good vibes played at high volume. Eschewing the traditional guitar-bass-drums format for a power trio, Lords deploy secret ampage to fashion the bottom end of a volley of basses from two conventional guitars, with a cataclysm of drummery sending the whole shebang into 100% party territory. Debut LP "This Ain't A Hate Thing, It's A Love Thing" came out in 2006 to great acclaim and follow-up "Everyone Is People" is due to be released at the beginning of Oct this year. Expect a combination of stupid music done clever and clever music done stupid.

BLAKLAVA
Super-heavy hooks from the heart of the Fens. Somewhere between bad milk and good sex - 3 long riffs played through an amp on its edge being pounded by drums and splendid chimes. Formerly known as Righteous Bastards, Blaklava are Tony Martin's favourite band.

C JOYNES & THE RESTLESS DEAD
Histon's C. Joynes is a master of heavy thumb-led finger-picking techniques that hark back to traditional country-blues, early ragtime, English folk-tune, North and West African music and elements of classical Indian music. Tonight, however, Joynes goes HEAVY, plugging into electricity for, possibly, the first time in public. The results will, inevitably, cause lasting effects on the parietal cortex.

The Living Room Live

The Living Room Live
CB2
The Living Room is, according to NME, the premier acoustic night in Cambridge. The event takes place fortnightly and both bands and singer/songwriters are invited to perform their work in acoustic format. This gives the audience a chance to hear acts perform their songs in a way perhaps not usually heard, although for many artists it is how the songs were originally written... perhaps even in their own living room!

The Living Room is hosted by Lord Bridge in his own living room, where the audience sit among like-minded people listening to wonderful music the way nature intended.

See the website for details of performers:
http://www.myspace.com/thelivingroomlive
Doors open at 8:30pm. Entry is £4 or £3 for 209Radio members. Tickets can be purchased in advance from www.wegottickets.com

Arrive fashionably on-time to avoid disappointment. Please be aware that the audience sit on soft furnishings on the floor but some chairs will be available on a first come first served basis.

The Living Room now has its own compilation CD (The Living Room Live) featuring live songs played at the night. The CD is available to buy at the venue, at other selected shops in Cambridge and on iTunes.

The Living Room has now featured on the UK festival scene and we have taken it, and some of the best acts we have booked for the Cambridge venue, to places such as The Secret Garden Festival, Blissfields (in 2008), Grass Roots, Strawberry Fair and more. The Living Room stage has also featured at the UK Festival Awards.

Hope Street Music is a not-for-profit organisation designed to support local music. All profits are put back into local music projects.

The Morning People

As you may have noticed, the impending financial apocalypse means that newspapers are currently full of space-filling columns suggesting feeble and impractical ways to save money. So, if you've already put your unwanted goods on eBay and switched the weekly shop to Aldi, what else can you do to trim the bills?

Well, under normal circumstances, if you wanted to go and see a gig by Cambridge superstar, Broken Family Band frontman and legendary nice guy Steven J Adams, you'd have to pay. After all, he has to live. But this Saturday brings a unique chance to see him perform a headline set for nowt, courtesy of the good people at the Globe Ale House.

There's fine support from country-blues singer-songwriter David Greeves and semi-resident weirdos The Morning People, there's ace DJing from Will, and it really, really won't cost you a penny.
